Winter session prep gathers pace; Vidhan Bhavan setup to be ready by Nov 19

Nagpur: With officials and staff set to begin arriving at Vidhan Bhavan from Nov 19, divisional commissioner Vijayalakshmi Bidari has instructed all departments to complete their arrangements at the complex before that date.During a review meeting on Wednesday, Bidari evaluated the preparations for the upcoming winter session of the state legislature, covering infrastructure, public services, and coordination between govt agencies. She urged departments to plan ahead and finish their tasks within the set deadlines. The session is expected to draw ministers, elected representatives, senior officials, employees, and media personnel to Maharashtra’s second capital for the annual event. This influx is likely to strain the city’s public facilities and roads. Bidari emphasised the importance of effective traffic planning, anticipating a significant increase in vehicle movement during the session. As protests and marches by social, employee, and other organisations typically take place during the session, Bidari directed officials to ensure adequate medical facilities at protest sites and to arrange for health teams to be on standby. She also called for mobile toilets to be installed at suitable locations for the convenience of participants and residents alike.Bidari further stressed the need for inter-departmental coordination, so that the activities of one agency do not interfere with the arrangements of another. The police, revenue, public works, health, and transport departments, along with local bodies, have each been assigned specific responsibilities for the session. She advised officials to make joint decisions where necessary to keep work on track. The meeting was attended by joint commissioner of police Navinchandra Reddy, district collector Kumar Ashirwad, Nagpur rural superintendent of police Harsh Poddar, and divisional joint commissioner Tushar Mathkar, among other senior officials.
