Shah’s visit to Punjab not enough without concrete action: Pilot
Congress in charge for Punjab Sachin Pilot

Chandigarh: Punjab Congress in-charge Sachin Pilot on Monday said Union home minister Amit Shah’s upcoming visit would mean little without concrete measures to address worsening law and order in the state. He held the Centre responsible for preventing the entry of illegal arms and drugs through borders, while accusing the state govt of failing on every front.Responding to a question about Shah’s proposed visit, Pilot welcomed the move but said steps should have been taken much earlier to bring the situation under control. He said the Centre had a responsibility to prevent illegal arms and drugs from entering the country through the Pakistan border, adding that stronger measures could have prevented Punjab from reaching its present condition.Acknowledging that law and order was a state subject, Pilot said killings were taking place continuously in Punjab. He said Punjab Congress president Pargat Singh and he had been travelling across the state, meeting families who had lost loved ones, offering them support and reviewing the progress of murder cases.Pilot said witnesses were turning hostile, accused were securing bail and coming out of jail, and victims’ families continued to receive threatening phone calls. Describing the situation as extremely serious, he said a visit alone would not suffice if the Centre was genuinely concerned about Punjab, and called for concrete and effective action. He also accused Punjab govt of failing on every front, saying law and order had completely collapsed in the state.
