Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Pargat Singh

Chandigarh: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Pargat Singh on Saturday criticised the AAP govt for its alleged inaction in the murder case of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota.Attacking Mann govt, he said that despite enduring the unbearable pain of losing his son, Jhota’s father Bhim Singh Fauji is continuing his fight for justice.Pargat said, “Who can understand the pain of a father whose son is no more and who has been sitting with his body for days, seeking justice?” He praised Bhim Singh for courageously raising his voice for Punjab’s interests. He added that despite his personal grief, Bhim Singh had appealed to people to preserve communal harmony and urged members of the Hindu community to celebrate their festivals, reflecting his commitment to Punjab. On the other hand, Pargat said, Punjab govt has completely failed to take effective action against the sale of intoxicating medicines. For five years, no effective action was allegedly taken against those involved in selling such substances. It was only after Parvinder Singh Jhota was shot dead in broad daylight that govt hurriedly initiated action against certain chemists and ordered the closure of their shops. He questioned why govt had failed to act seriously earlier and pointed out that such circumstances could have been prevented had timely action been taken. He said that chief minister Bhagwant Mann should immediately resign for failing to control the deteriorating law and order situation and the drug trade in Punjab. He added that instead of discussing the demand for justice in the Punjab legislative assembly, the AAP govt ran away from accountability, with the session on the first day concluding in just nine minutes. He reiterated that the Congress party stands firmly with Parvinder Singh‘s family in its fight for justice and will continue making every possible effort until justice is delivered.
