Five New Borewells, 10 Existing Ones To Be Revived In Kamptee Villages; Recharge Shafts, Check Dams And Pipeline Repairs Planned

Nagpur: With fears of water scarcity looming over rural Nagpur, Zilla Parishad has begun identifying vulnerable water sources and planning preventive measures, including reviving defunct borewells, restoring old wells and strengthening groundwater recharge. Rather than relying solely on new water supply schemes, the administration is also focusing on making existing infrastructure functional ahead of the anticipated dry spell.ZP chief executive officer Vinayak Mahamuni conducted field inspections in Kawtha, Mhasala and Khasala villages of Kamptee taluka on Tuesday, reviewing drinking water availability and potential drought-related challenges. At Kawtha, Mahamuni directed officials to include several measures in the village’s water scarcity contingency plan. These include drilling two new borewells with pumping machinery and rising mains, flushing 10 existing borewells and constructing five groundwater recharge shafts. An underground check dam near an existing well, stream deepening and a cement check dam have also been proposed to improve water retention and groundwater recharge. In Khasala, the focus will be on restoring existing wells. Officials have been instructed to desilt, clean up and rejuvenate the well near Datta Mandir and another one near the market platform. A new borewell has been proposed near Datta Mandir, while two additional borewells, along with pumping systems and rising mains, will be included in the second phase of the water supply plan.Mahamuni also ordered immediate repairs to a leaking air valve on a pipeline laid by Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) to prevent water wastage. Officials from rural water supply, minor irrigation, groundwater and mechanical departments, along with local representatives, participated in the review.
