NEW DELHI: Indian Navy is pursuing technological development across multiple domains, including air, underwater operations, artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum technology, to evolve into a multi-domain network force, Vice Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar said on Monday.Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Kochhar said the Navy was working not only to adopt emerging technologies but also to translate them into operational capabilities.Asked about the ongoing West Asia crisis and the Navy’s role in safeguarding India’s maritime interests, he said, “Ongoing crises have kept us engaged, in terms of both thinking and deployment.”He also referred to Operation Urja Suraksha, under which the Navy has helped escort several ships safely to Indian shores amid attacks on critical maritime routes.Discussing lessons from recent conflicts, Kochhar said they had brought into focus the need for the Navy to adopt and integrate new technologies, including autonomous systems and AI in warfare.“If I look forward, it also includes counter-UAS (unmanned aircraft system), use of quantum technology, which is a field that will be unfolding very soon in the future. All these, we are very cognisant of,” he added.
