Ghaziabad: The mystery surrounding the partially charred body of a woman has deepened. Officials indicated on Friday that she died due to hanging. The identity of the woman — who was found on a funeral pyre at a cremation ground along Banthala Canal Road under the Loni Border police station jurisdiction on Wednesday — is still unknown, prompting police to widen their search across Ghaziabad and adjoining districts.Police have shared her photographs with police stations in neighbouring districts. The images are also being circulated through communication networks to check for possible matches with missing-person reports. Investigators are also trying to reconstruct the events preceding the discovery. CCTV footage from roads surrounding the cremation ground is being examined. The individuals who are believed to have brought the body to the site allegedly left before the cremation could be completed. According to officials, the preliminary medical findings suggest death by hanging. Investigators are trying to establish the circumstances leading to her death or explain why an attempt was made to cremate her without her identity being disclosed. The partially burnt condition of the remains has added another challenge to the investigation. Police are also attempting to identify those involved in preparing the funeral pyre and determine their connection with the deceased. Officials said establishing the woman’s identity remains the immediate priority. While hanging has emerged as the indicated cause of death, whether it was suicide or whether it involved foul play remains under investigation.
