Patna: A man, who allegedly lured a minor girl with the promise of a police job and raped her, was arrested from Gujarat by a special team of Patna Police after a week-long search. The accused, identified as Abhishek Dubey alias Rakesh Dubey, was apprehended from Tapovan Society Mora in the Ichhapore police station area in Surat on Nov 2, Danapur ASP-I Ajit Kumar told reporters on Thursday. He said Dubey had fled Bihar after the incident and was continuously changing his location to evade arrest.According to police, the case came to light on Oct 25 when the girl’s mother lodged a complaint at a local police station in Patna. She alleged that her minor daughter had been abducted and sexually assaulted at a guest house after being lured with the promise of a job. Based on the complaint, police lodged a case under Sections 64(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant provisions of the Pocso Act.Considering the seriousness of the case, a special raiding team was constituted under the leadership of Danapur ASP-I Ajit Kumar. During the initial investigation, police arrested the guest house operator and manager, Ankit Kumar, on Oct 26. He was subsequently sent to judicial custody and the guest house was sealed. A forensic team was also called in to examine the premises, while the victim underwent a medical examination. The ASP said the prime accused, Abhishek, a native of Chenari in Rohtas district, had fled Bihar after the alleged crime. “Using intelligence inputs and technical surveillance, investigators traced his location to Surat in Gujarat. A police team was subsequently dispatched there, where he was arrested on Nov 2. He is being brought to Bihar for further legal proceedings and remand,” Kumar said.He said the accused had approached the girl while she was travelling on a bus with her mother. Abhishek allegedly befriended her and claimed to have contacts in the police department, promising to help her secure a police job. He allegedly assured her that he could facilitate her physical test and interview before calling her to Patna. The ASP said the accused had earlier worked in the security sector in Gujarat and was familiar with Patna, where he had previously lived and studied. “He used this familiarity to identify locations and establish contact with the guest house operator. Police also found that the guest house had not maintained the mandatory visitor register, raising questions about the role of its management,” Kumar said.
