Thiruvananthapuram: A decomposed human skeleton was found inside an unfinished apartment building near Sreenetra Eye Hospital at Nandavanam around 11.15am on Friday, prompting the Museum police to launch an investigation. The remains were discovered by construction workers who had arrived to clean the building and its surroundings. The structure, identified in the complaint as the under-construction Lexinova Flats, had remained incomplete for a considerable period.Police found a skull and several bone fragments from the ground floor where water had accumulated. The building and its surroundings had become overgrown with vegetation.Police also recovered certain articles near the remains that could help establish the identity of the deceased. A sacred Hindu thread was reportedly found tied around one of the hands, while a green-coloured mala was also recovered.A police source said investigators would also examine missing-person cases reported in the area to establish the identity of the deceased. Two missing-person cases have been registered with the Cantonment police, and the investigation will focus on whether either case has any connection with the skeletal remains.Police said the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the death are yet to be established. The extent of decomposition suggests that the remains may have been lying at the location for a considerable period, though the exact time of death will be determined only after scientific examination.A forensic team conducted a detailed examination of the building and the area. The skeletal remains will undergo scientific and forensic tests to establish the identity, age and possible cause of death.
