Panaji: The Tiswadi deputy collector has halted all tenancy proceedings concerning 1.1 lakh sqm of land that falls under the Azzosim comunidade. Authorities have directed the mamlatdar and joint mamlatdar not to process or certify any changes in Form I & XIV or other revenue records related to the three plots that are at the core of the disputed transactions.Swapnesh Sherlekar, professor Ramrao Wagh and St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar had raised the issue about a person trying to usurp land.Borkar also met with villagers at Navdurga Temple, Gavshi, to discuss the attempted land grab.“Land that was protected by the Gaonkars is now being given to outsiders while local Goans cannot afford to buy land and build a home. Strict action needs to be taken against all the govt officers involved in this. I am going to write to the vigilance department asking for an investigation,” said Borkar. The Tiswadi deputy collector’s order puts on hold a May 27 judgment and the consequential purchase order dated Oct 9, which appears to favour a person named Sadiq Sirasj Dodhamani, who has sought tenancy rights over three land parcels measuring 1.1 lakh sqm. The next hearing is scheduled for Nov 24.The Azzosim comunidade body is defunct with no managing committee. “Because there is no managing committee, anything is happening. When the legislative amendment related to the code of comunidade was brought in the assembly, I objected in the House because corruption will continue. The code of comunidade and the comunidade land should be handled by the Gaonkars and not govt,” said Borkar.“The custodian of the Azzosim comunidade is joint mamlatdar III and this responsibility is his to protect this land. We need to know how the joint mamlatdar III, whoever he is, how did he allow the tenancy proceedings to continue? How was this name added? We feel that IAS officers are involved and this needs to be investigated,” said Borkar.
