Hazaribag: Officers of National Investigation Agency (NIA) searched two houses at Baba Path in Hazaribag early Wednesday as part of a suspected counterfeit Indian currency probe, sources said.The searches were carried out at the residences of Uday Saw and Pradeep Saw in Subhash Barla Gali under Bara Bazar police station limits. A seven-member NIA team, accompanied by armed personnel and assisted by local police, reached the area between 3 am and 4 am and searched the premises for nearly seven hours.During the operation, the teams cordoned off the houses and restricted the movement of residents and outsiders.Sources said the agency seized documents, paper records, mobile phones and a device resembling a printer or scanner. The seized materials were reportedly taken to Ranchi for examination.There were also claims that one person was taken away by the team. However, NIA has not confirmed any detention or arrest. Reports suggesting possible links to money laundering or terror funding have also not been officially verified.Hours after the search, Pradeep and his wife denied any involvement in counterfeit currency printing or any other illegal activity.“Officials searched every room and both floors of our house but found nothing suspicious,” Pradeep said.He acknowledged that he was related to Uday but described him as a distant relative who lived separately.The family said they had been living at the Baba Path residence for the past three to four years and were facing financial difficulties, including expenses related to their daughter’s marriage. They also claimed that no criminal case was pending against them.NIA has not issued an official statement on the searches or confirmed the alleged links of occupants to any counterfeit currency network.
