Mangaluru: Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai said that a proposal has been submitted to National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) regarding the construction of a new four-lane highway from Mani to Puttur, a major road in his constituency. He said that following the construction of the flyover at Mani on Mangaluru-Bengaluru NH-75, the road branching off toward Puttur does not meet national highway standards. Large multi-axle trucks cannot negotiate the turn here, which will cause serious problems in the future. The MLA said he will discuss the proposal for a new four-lane highway from Mani to Puttur with Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta.Although the Mani–Mysuru stretch is designated as a national highway, only a service-road layout exists at the Mani junction, diverting towards Puttur beneath the overbridge. The MLA noted that he has submitted a proposal for an alternative four-lane road because oversized vehicles cannot make the turn.Under the proposed plan, the new four-lane highway would branch off slightly ahead of Mani from Budoli and connect back to the existing highway near Kabaka. This alignment would prove highly advantageous in the future, he said, noting that the existing Mani–Kabaka road could be preserved as is alongside the new four-lane corridor. He pointed out that at Mani, where the Mani-Mysuru highway begins, it is extremely difficult for 40-50-ft-long trucks to take a turn from NH-75. “Considering all the factors, we have proposed a new four-lane from Budoli, leaving the existing road intact. The main four-lane road can run from Budoli and join near Kabaka. From there onward, it will continue as a full four-lane highway. Considering that this will prevent traffic issues for the next 30 years, we held discussions and submitted this new proposal.
