Minister says Nitish revered as ‘ishwar’ in Bihar’s rural households

Patna: Bihar planning and development minister Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha said on Friday that former chief minister and JD(U) president Nitish Kumar was already revered as an ‘ishwar (deity)’ in households across the state’s countryside.“Even today, if you visit Bihar’s countryside, you will find that to the extent people remember and chant the name of an ‘ishwar (deity)’ in their households, they also remember Nitish as such and in no less terms,” Kushwaha told reporters after the conclusion of the ‘Jan Sunwai’ programme at the party’s state headquarters. He attributed the reverence to Nitish’s initiatives for women’s empowerment, particularly his efforts to ensure school education for girls and open up recruitment opportunities for them as women constables in the state police force.“If you visit their (educated girls and women constables) houses, you will see that Nitish is being remembered as a local deity in no less terms,” Kushwaha said.
