Patna: JD(U) and RJD on Sunday recalled Jayaprakash Narayan’s contribution to the freedom struggle and his movement against the Emergency and for the restoration of democracy, at separate functions held at their state headquarters to mark his birth anniversary. At the JD(U) function, state party president Umesh Singh Kushwaha said former CM and party national president Nitish Kumar had drawn inspiration from JP’s ideals while framing govt policies and schemes.“Today, there is no shortage of leaders who recall JP’s contributions, but it is Nitish who has translated his thoughts and ideals into govt policies and schemes,” Kushwaha said.He said Nitish had placed JP’s ideals at the centre of his policies, particularly those aimed at the uplift of Dalit communities, social justice and democratic values. He also cited the party’s commitment to “development with justice and bringing all sections of society to the mainstream”.Kushwaha questioned the commitment of functionaries from other parties to JP’s ideals, describing it as insincere compared with Nitish’s commitment. He also called for renewed commitment to the values espoused by JP.Recalling JP’s role in the freedom struggle and his opposition to the Emergency, Kushwaha said he had remained a symbol of resistance to injustice, exploitation and dictatorship, and had fought to protect democratic rights. At the RJD function, party general secretary Ranvijay Sahu said JP had fought against corruption and for democratic rights throughout his life. He described JP as an inspiration for the youth and said his call for ‘Total Revolution’ had led to a change of regime.
