Ahmedabad: The father of a 27-year-old Gota woman, whose body was found in the riverfront area, has accused a family member of abetting her suicide. In his complaint filed with Vadaj police on Nov 5, he alleged that her husband’s brother-in-law whom she was in a relationship with went back on his promise to marry her. He said the accused continued communication with the woman despite objections from both families. The woman married in May 2022. Her relationship with the accused came to light during a family meeting. He was told to cut ties with her, but he allegedly continued and even got her a keypad phone. On Sept 25, the woman left her parental home after getting a call. Her family, joined by the accused, searched for her. Her body was found near Staircase 31 on the western riverfront. The family identified it at Civil Hospital on Oct 8.The woman’s father said the accused misled her, creating circumstances that drove her to suicide.
