Mangaluru: Following instructions of health minister UT Khader, a team led by Dakshina Kannada district food safety designated officer Dr Praveen Kumar CH conducted inspections at the franchise units of shops that supply and sell cakes and ice creams sourced from cloud kitchens and central cake manufacturing units.Inspections were carried out within the Surathkal jurisdiction, where cake samples were collected for laboratory analysis to test the food colouring being used. Officials issued strict warnings against using harmful artificial colours to make cakes visually appealing. Furthermore, manufacturers were strictly warned to ensure that sweets prepared for festive occasions are made maintaining high quality and hygiene standards, without the addition of artificial colors.During the drive, surprise raids were also conducted on local hotels to check kitchen cleanliness. Samples of raw materials and ingredients used in food preparation were sent to the laboratory for testing, and formal notices were served to establishments failing to maintain proper hygiene.
