Lucknow: UP govt announced the schedule for State Teacher Award and Chief Minister Teacher Award for secondary education teachers for the academic session 2026-27. Online applications from outstanding principals, head teachers and teachers are invited from Nov 10 to Nov 30.Teachers vying for the award should ensure the performance of students in board examinations is not less than 90% for the past five years. There will be 18 teachers — one from each division — who will be awarded. The process will be conducted entirely online. All applicants have been asked to upload supporting documents along with a five-minute video highlighting their innovative and exemplary work.Making the process more objective, the secondary education department has linked the award with the performance of students in the board exam. Earlier, only the exam result was mentioned for the award, not the percentage. But now, teachers or principals of only those schools will be considered to have produced 90% results for five years in a row, said officials.Of the 18 teachers, there will be two principals and two head teachers. There will be different standards for the principals/head teachers and teachers. There will be separate categories for selecting principals, language teachers and mathematics, science, humanities, agriculture, commerce, arts, music and exercise teachers.According to the guidelines, a teacher needs to achieve a minimum of 50% points, which was earlier 40%. Now, there will be a committee at the directorate level so that limited applications are presented before the state selection committee. An order issued by secondary education director Pratap Singh Baghel said district-level committees will scrutinise applications and conduct field verification between Dec 1 and Dec 15, followed by divisional-level selection from Dec 16 to Dec 30. Directorate-level scrutiny will take place from Dec 31 to Jan 14, 2027, while the state selection committee will complete the final selection process between Jan 15 and Jan 24, 2027.
