Domestic help arrested in Bihar for armed robbery

New Delhi: Twenty-two-year-old Sushil Kumar, carrying a Rs 50,000 bounty, was arrested in Bihar’s Madhubani for his involvement in a high-profile armed robbery at a businessman’s house in New Delhi’s Golf Links over six months ago. The accused had been hired a few days before the incident, said police. On April 16, Kumar and seven other armed men allegedly stormed the residence of 76-year-old businessman Ashok Chawla. The attackers threatened the family with swords and escaped with cash and jewellery worth Rs 30–35 lakh.“Investigation revealed the attack was planned with Kumar, the family’s newly hired domestic servant. While six accomplices were arrested earlier, Kumar evaded custody, prompting a Rs 50,000 bounty for his capture on Oct 22,” said Special CP HGS Dhaliwal. The operation was executed by an anti-extortion and kidnapping cell (AEKC) team led by Inspector Veer Singh, supervised by ACP Pankaj Arora and DCP Sanjeev Kumar Yadav. The AEKC team used technical surveillance and groundwork to trace Kumar to Madhubani, dispatching teams to apprehend him.“Given the sensitive area near the Nepal border, tracing the accused was difficult. However, on Oct 31, the team executed a coordinated ambush and arrested Sushil Kumar near Ghoghardiha Railway Station,” said DCP Sanjeev Kumar. The accused was produced before Patiala House Courts in New Delhi and relevant legal proceedings are being undertaken, said police.
