Minister directs officials to resolve hurdles in land grants

Udupi: District minister Rizwan Arshad has directed officials to address hurdles faced by residents of Udupi district in securing land grants and regularising houses built on govt land.Arshad, who holds the food, civil supplies and consumer affairs portfolio, held a detailed meeting with forest minister Ramalinga Reddy, legislators from Udupi district and officials in Bengaluru on Tuesday to discuss issues concerning the forest and revenue departments. The meeting primarily discussed the regularisation of houses built on govt land, delays in the distribution of bagair hukum land, extension of lease periods for cashew plantations and hurdles in the deemed forest survey.MLA Sunil Kumar said applications seeking regularisation of houses built on govt land under section 94C were being rejected by officials on various grounds. He pointed out that most people who had built houses on govt land were economically disadvantaged and that applicants could not submit fresh applications once their requests were rejected. He also highlighted delays in surveying ‘bagair hukum’ land applications cleared by committees headed by legislators.Responding to the concerns, revenue department additional chief secretary Rajendra Kataria assured the meeting that issues related to regularisation of houses under Form 94C would be addressed on priority.Following Arshad’s directions, Kataria said a technical committee from the revenue department would soon visit Udupi district to study issues related to land distribution and surveys and identify solutions.Regarding the grant of bagair hukum land, Kataria said a committee headed by the regional commissioner had been constituted to examine genuine applications.
