TNNColva: The South Goa sessions court has rejected the discharge application filed by Irfan Khan, holding that there is sufficient material on record to proceed against him on charges of alleged rape, criminal intimidation and causing grievous hurt.Sessions Judge Sharmila A Patil, while dismissing Khan’s application, said the material warranted framing of charges against him.According to the prosecution, the woman lodged a complaint alleging that Khan had sexual intercourse with her without her consent in Feb 2026. A few days later, he allegedly took her on his scooter to an isolated location in the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) area at Verna, where he assaulted her with a belt, sexually assaulted her and threatened her with dire consequences.Khan has been charged under Sections 64, 118(1), 351(2) and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.In her order, Judge Patil noted that the medical evidence, along with photographs on record, substantiated the allegations in the complaint. The court also observed that statements of several witnesses corroborated the complaint and the medical evidence.Considering the material on record, the court held that there was sufficient ground to frame charges against Khan and accordingly dismissed his discharge application.
