Ashoka seeks attempt-to-murder case over weapons sent to Chalavadi

Bengaluru: Leader of opposition in the legislative assembly R Ashoka Sunday accused Congress of exposing its “true face” by allegedly using goons to threaten legislative council opposition leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy by sending machetes and knives to his residence. He demanded that police register an attempt-to-murder case and arrest those responsible. The controversy follows Narayanaswamy’s alleged remark at a public meeting in Kolar that BJP workers would cut Congress into pieces and throw them into the Arabian Sea. The statement triggered protests by Congress workers. On Saturday, however, the controversy took a new turn after some miscreants allegedly sent machetes and knives to Narayanaswamy’s residence through an online delivery platform.Narayanaswamy alleged that the parcels were sent by Congress workers or goons hired by them. He claimed the senders had opted for cash on delivery and had not paid for the items.Ashoka said Narayanaswamy was ready to face any inquiry into his controversial remarks, but Congress had twisted his statement and allegedly resorted to sending weapons to threaten him.He alleged that the incident took place despite a police station being located nearby and the Commissioner’s office being a short distance away. “Goons are moving around openly. This reflects the failure of the state govt. If the chief minister expects respect, he should also respect the leader of opposition,” he said.
