PMC to install 100 additional streetlights in each ward ahead of Chhath

Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) will install 100 additional streetlights in each of the city’s 75 wards ahead of Chhath, distributing 38 more lights per ward in the second phase on Thursday. With 22 lights already provided in the first phase, each ward has now received 60 streetlights, while the remaining 40 will be supplied in subsequent phases. The lights are being installed at identified dark spots, lanes and other poorly lit areas across the city. As part of the preparation, PMC has repaired over 33,000 streetlights and replaced more than 6,000 faulty ones during the past three months. Around 25-26 teams are carrying out daily inspections and repairs of switches, wiring, bulbs and other electrical components.Special lighting arrangements are also being made at Ganga ghats and approach roads for Chhath devotees. Light towers equipped with four to five floodlights or metal-halide lamps are being installed at all ghats. PMC is simultaneously monitoring 50 high-mast lights and around 22,000 permanent streetlights at ghats and approach roads to ensure adequate illumination during the festival.Officials said efforts are underway to complete all lighting-related work before Chhath to ensure safe and convenient movement of devotees during the morning and evening rituals.
