Agartala: TIPRA Motha Party, which is an ally of the ruling BJP in Tripura, on Tuesday constituted its central working committee (CWC) by appointing eight members to the party’s principal organisational body, amid a reported deadlock within the ruling coalition over the selection of candidates for the upcoming civic elections.According to a notice, the newly constituted CWC includes BK Hrangkhawl, Jagadish Debbarma, Brishaketu Debbarma, Ranjit Debbarma, Purna Chandra Jamatia, Ratish Tripura, Paul Dangshu and Keneram Reang. The notice said Jagadish Debbarma had joined BJP three months before the Autonomous District Council election. The presidents of the Youth TIPRA Federation and the TIPRA Women Federation, along with the chief executive member of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council, have been included as invited members in view of their positions, the notice said. The decision by TIPRA Motha founder and royal heir Pradyot Kishore Debbarman to decline membership of the CWC was a notable aspect of the announcement. A month ago, he had distanced himself from active politics but recently met chief minister Manik Saha over the party’s key demands. The notice said Debbarman had been invited to join the CWC but had declined, while assuring the party, the state and its people of his continued support. The formation of the CWC has drawn attention to TIPRA Motha’s organisational structure and political positioning. While a state-recognised political party may establish such a body for its internal functioning, the use of the term “central working committee” is also associated with parties operating across multiple states.TIPRA Motha’s political and organisational activities remain focused primarily on Tripura. The formation of the CWC could either reflect an effort to strengthen the party’s internal structure or signal an intention to expand its activities beyond the state.
