Kanpur: A day after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested senior Samajwadi Party functionary and former MP Azam Khan outside Rampur district jail, moments after his release following nearly 11 months in custody, party national general secretary Shivpal Yadav accused the central and Uttar Pradesh govts of framing opposition leaders in false cases and jailing them to suppress dissent.Speaking at a Kavi Sammelan at Ramlila Maidan in Jaswant Nagar, Etawah, Shivpal on Sunday alleged that Azam had been jailed in false cases and taken into custody by ED at govt’s behest after securing bail.“Azam Khan was lodged in jail in false cases. When he was coming out of jail on bail, as soon as he stepped out, ED personnel took him into custody on the instructions of the govt… It is a conspiracy to suppress opposition voices,” he added.Shivpal said people must raise their voices against what he called a tyrannical govt and remove it from office. He claimed voters would respond strongly to govt policies in the 2027 UP assembly elections.
