CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government has refused to regularise 10,757 guest teachers, drawing sharp criticism from senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Singh Surjewala, who accused the Nayab Singh Saini government of being anti-education and anti-employment.Alleging that the BJP government had dashed the hopes of thousands of teachers seeking permanent employment, Surjewala said the education department had made it clear that guest teachers would not be regularised and that a speaking order had already been issued in this regard.Questioning the government’s stand, the Congress leader asked why it was willing to allow guest teachers to continue in service until the age of 58 but was unwilling to grant them permanent employee status and long-term job security. He also accused the government of disregarding a Punjab and Haryana High Court direction dated May 25, 2026, which, according to him, had asked the state to consider the claims of guest teachers for regularisation under its policy dated June 18, 2014.Describing the decision as another instance of the BJP government’s alleged betrayal of contractual employees, Surjewala said the party had turned the promise of permanent employment into an instrument to exploit Haryana’s youth. He alleged that the government’s policy and intentions were clear from its refusal to regularise temporary employees despite their years of service.Highlighting vacancies in the education department, Surjewala said thousands of teaching posts remained vacant, from primary-level positions to postgraduate teacher (PGT) posts. He alleged that the government was failing both students, by allowing a shortage of teachers to persist, and guest teachers, by denying them job security. The Congress leader termed the decision a setback for the state’s education system and accused the BJP government of taking away the prospect of a secure future from thousands of teachers.
