Times News NetworkKanpur: District magistrate Mahendra Singh Tanwar, municipal commissioner Arpit Upadhyaya and chief development officer Abhinav J Jain conducted a surprise inspection of under-construction roads in the city on Tuesday night and directed officials to expedite the work.During the inspection of a road being constructed under CM Grid Scheme in Swaroop Nagar, the DM expressed displeasure over the slow pace of work after the supervisor admitted that the progress was not as per the stipulated timeline. He directed the supervisor to complete the pending work within two days and ensure that the entire road construction was completed by Nov 30. He warned that strict action would be taken against the contractors and other responsible persons in case of failure to meet the deadline.Earlier, the three senior officials inspected an under-construction road in Chunniganj. PWD officials informed them that a portion of the road was to be constructed by Jal Nigam.The DM pointed out that road construction undertaken by different departments often leads to differences in quality, surface level and uniformity. Keeping public convenience and road quality in mind, he directed that the entire construction work should be executed by PWD to ensure a uniform and level road surface.The officials also inspected various construction works being carried out by PWD, Metro and Jal Nigam at Company Bagh crossing. The DM directed the departments concerned to maintain proper coordination and ensure that all projects were completed within the stipulated time without compromising on quality.He also directed the executive engineer of PWD to immediately submit proposals to govt for the reconstruction of 14 damaged roads in the district. He said the process should be expedited so that construction work could begin as soon as govt approval was received, providing relief to commuters facing inconvenience due to damaged roads.
