‘Loo’ & behold: Cobra found in toilet commode in Akola | Nagpur News

Akola: A cobra coiled inside the toilet commode caused anxious moments for a family in Akola’s Sudhir Colony on Sunday night. The family was relieved after the venomous reptile was safely rescued by wildlife department warden Bal Kalane and wildlife rescuer Satish Buddhivaparkar. The incident took place at around 10 pm on Nov 1 at the residence of the Kandekar family. As per Kalane, snake sightings generally decline during Nov. “However, water scarcity this year is affecting the natural habitats of reptiles too. Snakes and other reptiles are increasingly compelled to move closer to villages and urban settlements for water, cooler surroundings and shelter,” he claimed. As per Kalane, sightings and rescue operations involving pythons have also been reported in several parts of Maharashtra over the past two months. “Pythons generally inhabit areas close to water bodies,” he said.Experts have advised citizens not to approach, handle or attempt to kill snakes if they are spotted inside houses. “People should maintain a safe distance and immediately contact trained snake rescuers or the forest department,” they said.
