HC bans commercial activities, weddings at Jaipur’s Vidhyadhar Ka Bag

Jaipur: Rajasthan High Court has prohibited commercial activities, weddings, private parties, restaurant operations and other similar uses at Vidhyadhar Ka Bag, near Ghat Ki Guni in Jaipur, a declared monument located in a reserved forest area. The court cited the potential disturbance to protected wildlife from such activities. The court directed the officer in charge to remain present at the next hearing on Dec 8 and explain how tenders were issued for a property adjacent to the forest area. It also sought an explanation from the Registry for listing the matter under the admission category despite an earlier order dated Sept 29, 2026, directing that it be listed for final hearing.A division bench of Chief Justice Sanjay K Agrawal and Justice Sameer Jain passed the order Monday while hearing a PIL filed by Citizens Protection Society against the state govt and others.According to the petition, wedding ceremonies and private functions were being organised on the premises, with loud music, laser lights and fireworks late at night. It also raised concerns over a restaurant operating in the locality under a tender issued on Sept 14, 2022.“The property is situated adjacent to a wildlife area. Fireworks, loud music, and laser lights during late-night hours cause discomfort to protected wildlife. Such activities ought to be prohibited,” the court observed. The bench appointed advocate Apeksha Bapna as court commissioner to inspect the premises and submit a detailed report. The state govt will bear the inspection cost of Rs 25,000 and provide necessary assistance.
