Chikkamagaluru: A 16-year-old boy has been taken into custody for alleged sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl in Chikkamagaluru’s Balehonnur. Police said the boy, known to the victim’s family, was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and sent to a childcare institution. According to police, the complaint was filed by the girl’s father on Nov 2. He stated that his daughter, a class 3 student, had been unwell and not attending school for two months.During treatment at the district hospital in Chikkamagaluru, the girl allegedly disclosed to doctors that the boy had been coming to their house when she was alone for the past six months, assaulted her multiple times and threatened her not to reveal it.Based on the medical disclosure and the father’s complaint, Balehonnur police registered a case under BNS and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.According to superintendent of police Jitender Kumar Dayama, the investigation is under way and the girl has been referred for medical examination and counselling through Child Welfare Committee.
