Ranchi: Ambuja Cements Ltd, part of the Adani Group, has proposed to set up a 2.9 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) cement grinding unit in Godda district as part of its nationwide expansion. The proposed facility is part of a Rs 14,500-crore growth programme to increase total cement capacity from 113.5 MTPA to 155 MTPA by financial year 2029-30, the company said in a statement on Monday. The project is expected to strengthen Godda’s position on Jharkhand’s industrial map, besides creating employment and boosting allied economic activity.Large cement grinding units typically generate direct employment in plant operations, maintenance, logistics and administration. They also support indirect jobs in transportation, contract services, construction, warehousing and local supply chains. The Godda unit is a key part of the eastern India strategy of Ambuja Cements. Its location will help the company cater to growing demand in Jharkhand and neighbouring states, while reducing transportation costs and delivery time. The expansion plan also includes 2.9 MTPA grinding units in Assam and Bihar, along with additional clinker capacity in Assam.Vinod Bahety, CEO, cement business, said the company was building a more balanced manufacturing network by strengthening the linkage between clinker and grinding capacities and improving logistics efficiency.
