Times News NetworkKanpur: To ease traffic congestion and reduce pressure on the Jhakarkati bus terminal during the Diwali festival, the district administration on Tuesday announced a series of traffic management measures, including diversion of buses, expansion of bus operations from Signature City terminal and seven days of free parking at designated locations. The decisions were taken at a review meeting on traffic arrangements held at the divisional commissioner’s camp office under the chairmanship of commissioner K Vijayendra Pandian. It was decided that buses arriving from western districts, including Agra, Etawah and Ghaziabad, and heading towards destinations beyond Kanpur, such as Lucknow, will not enter the Jhakarkati bus terminal. Instead, they will be diverted via Bhauti, Naubasta flyover and Ramadevi towards their respective destinations. The move is aimed at reducing unnecessary bus movement within the city and easing congestion at Jhakarkati and Tatmill intersections. The administration also decided to expand bus operations from the Signature City bus terminal in Vikas Nagar. Buses on Lucknow, Hardoi and Raebareli routes will operate from this terminal. The Saraiya crossing is scheduled to be inaugurated on Nov 5, and from the same day, these buses will ply via the crossing. This arrangement is expected to reduce the number of buses at Jhakarkati and ease traffic congestion on the Jareeb Chowki-Ghantaghar route. The commissioner directed that all buses arriving at Jhakarkati terminal must be parked within its premises, and no bus should be allowed to park on the road.In view of the expected rush in markets during Deepawali, the administration has decided to make the multi-level parking facilities at Phoolbagh, Parade Chauraha and Panchakki completely free for seven days. The Ramlila ground near Parade crossing will also be used as a temporary free parking facility.Proper utilisation of designated parking facilities would prevent roadside parking near major markets and ensure smoother traffic movement, the commissioner said.
