Gonda: In a first-of-its-kind initiative in the Devipatan division, the administration on Friday launched ‘Parampara se Poshan’, a nutrition campaign aimed at combating malnutrition among women and children across Gonda, Bahraich, Balrampur and Shravasti districts. The inaugural distribution drive was held at the Zila Panchayat Sabhagar in Gonda, where 250 undernourished mothers and children received nutrition support kits. Officials said Gonda is the first district in the division to implement the programme, with similar drives planned in the remaining three districts.According to officials, 10,842 children suffering from Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) or Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) have been identified across the division. The initiative aims to support all of them through a combination of nutritional assistance and regular health monitoring. The programme focuses on reviving traditional dietary practices. Beneficiaries were provided iron kadhais, which help improve iron intake through daily cooking, along with jaggery, roasted chana and sattu, foods known for their nutritional value and affordability. Families also received calcium supplements, ORS-Zinc packets and fortified Take Home Ration in the form of ready-to-cook nutritional premixes.Conceived by Devipatan divisional commissioner Durga Shakti Nagpal, the initiative seeks to ensure sustained improvements in maternal and child health rather than a one-time intervention. Anganwadi and ASHA workers will conduct regular home visits and monitor the growth, weight and haemoglobin levels of beneficiaries.Speaking at the launch, Nagpal said the campaign combines traditional dietary wisdom with the reach of govt welfare systems. She said the administration would continue supporting families until children achieve healthy growth and mothers attain improved nutritional status.Nagpal also praised the Gonda administration, led by district magistrate Priyanka Niranjan, for organising the first drive and said the model would now be expanded across the division to cover all identified beneficiaries.
