NEW DELHI: A quarrel between two JNU students over a woman friend turned violent when one of them allegedly attacked the other with a butcher’s knife inside Barak Hostel on the university campus on Thursday, reports Sugandha Jha.“Two students started fighting over a female friend. During the fight, one student took out a butcher’s knife and attacked the other on the face, causing serious injuries, including to his eyes,” said JNU security officer Naveen Yadav. The alleged attacker was also injured. The 19-year-old woman at the centre of the dispute and a fourth student were also injured. “All the injured students were admitted to AIIMS Trauma Centre,” Yadav said.Police have registered a case of attempt to murder.No arrest has been made so far as the alleged attacker is also hospitalised,” an officer said.The university has submitted a report to the chief proctor’s office and is expected to take further action based on the FIR.According to police and JNU, all four injured persons were students. However, the AIIMS statement referred to the involvement of 10 people in the violence, indicating that the violence, which broke out inside a room, swelled into a group clash.“A 22-year-old male patient, whose case record mentions an assault involving 10 people, suffered serious injuries to his right eye, nose, face and shoulders, along with multiple fractures. He underwent surgery,” said Rima Dada, media cell in-charge of AIIMS.“The 19-year-old woman, who was reportedly physically assaulted by two known people, suffered cuts and wounds on her forearm and hand that required stitches. A 24-year-old man suffered injuries to his wrist and fingers, including tendon damage, and underwent surgery. A fourth patient, a 39-year-old man, was reportedly assaulted by 10 people,” AIIMS added.
