Kolkata: Jadavpur University debarred the accused maths dept staffer from entering the campus on Monday till the probe is over. A first-year arts faculty student has alleged that a university staffer sexually harassed her on the sixth floor of Technology Bhavan around 3.20 pm on Friday. Students have submitted a plaint against the non-teaching staffer to VC Chiranjib Bhattacharjee demanding punitive action. The internal complaints committee (ICC) that will probe the matter may hear the case on Wednesday.The notice signed by acting registrar Debajit Dutta to the staffer read, “As directed by the Hon’ble VC and in view of the complaint of sexual harassment received from a group of students of the university, I am to inform you that you are hereby debarred from entering the campus, as per the Clause 9 of University Grants Commission (Prevention, prohibition and redressal of sexual harassment of women employees and students in higher educational institutions) Regulations, 2015, until the inquiry is over by ICC or any further connecting order is issued.”An official said, “An ICC meeting is scheduled on Wednesday. This case may be placed at that meeting.”The staffer told TOI on Monday, “I did not go to the university on Monday but I came to know that a notice has been issued barring me from entering the campus. This has been unjust to me. The allegations are false. I have been framed and without any fault of mine, I have already been given a punishment.”Some students marched to the VC to ensure action and a fast trial of this as well as other cases that are pending before the ICC.
