Thiruvananthapuram: CM VD Satheesan directed PWD to immediately cancel an order sanctioning repair and renovation works worth over Rs 1 crore at Cliff House, his official residence. He sought an urgent report from the PWD secretary on how the order was issued without informing either him or CMO.Satheesan had reportedly instructed officials at the time of assuming office that no unnecessary renovation or construction work should be undertaken at Cliff House. PWD explained that it had issued the order as part of a safety audit initiated in 2022. But the current directive from the CM is that no works should be carried out based on the estimates prepared during the previous govt’s tenure and that only essential renovation and maintenance works should be undertaken. The directive to cancel the order comes amid concerns over the need for restraint in spending public money on renovation and beautification of the CM’s official residence.
