10,000 allied healthcare students face uncertainty as Punjab college affiliations stall

Chandigarh: Nearly 10,000 allied healthcare students across Punjab face uncertainty as affiliation orders for 80–90 colleges remain pending for the 2026–27 academic session, with the Oct 31 admission deadline approaching.Punjab Unaided Colleges Association (PUCA) president Anshu Kataria said IK Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU) initially delayed the process while awaiting a University Grants Commission (UGC) notification, issued on Aug 27, 2026, endorsing courses under the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP).The university subsequently sought clarification from the NCAHP on offering BSc Cardiac Care Technology (CCT) and BSc Operation Theatre Technology (OTT), leading to further delays, Kataria said.Kataria has written to the Punjab health minister, seeking the state govt’s intervention with the NCAHP. He urged the commission to treat Punjab as a special case and extend the admission deadline by a month, saying this would prevent nearly 10,000 students from losing an academic year because of administrative delays.
