Panchkula: Railway passengers arriving at Panchkula railway station in the evening are being forced to shell out hefty amounts on private transport due to the absence of public bus connectivity. Auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw operators charge between Rs 200 and Rs 400 to ferry passengers to Sectors 7 and 11, while those travelling to trans-Ghaggar sectors have to pay Rs 500 to Rs 600, making the commute particularly expensive for daily passengers and those arriving with families and luggage. To provide relief to commuters, Haryana Roadways has been asked to extend its bus service to the railway station beyond morning hours. At present, only three Haryana Roadways buses operate in the morning to facilitate passengers travelling to and from the railway station. However, the absence of an evening service leaves passengers with little option but to depend on private transport and pay steep fares for their onward journey. The proposed extension is expected to provide an affordable transport option to railway passengers and improve last-mile connectivity, particularly for those travelling to different sectors of Panchkula after arriving by train.Ambala MP Varun Chaudhary, who chairs the Disha committee, directed Roadways officials to ensure that buses operate to the railway station in the evening as well. He was reviewing the progress of development projects and compliance with decisions taken at the previous meeting.
