Kanpur: A leak in a PNG pipeline sparked a fire near Kulvanti Hospital under the Kakadev police station limits, in Kanpur on Friday, causing panic among passers-by and shopkeepers before emergency teams brought the flames under control.According to local residents, the pipeline suddenly developed a leak and high flames began rising from it.Police reached the spot after receiving information, evacuated the surroundings as a precaution and diverted traffic because of the hospital’s proximity.The gas company’s technical response team arrived with equipment and shut the main supply line for the affected block. The fire pressure subsequently fell, and the flames were extinguished shortly afterwards.Engineers began repairing the leaking pipeline after the fire was put out.
