ARA: In a bone-chilling incident of domestic violence in the Town police station area of Ara on Thursday, a man stabbed his wife more than 150 times, leaving her critically injured.Describing the gruesome incident to TOI on Friday, renowned Ara surgeon Dr Vikash Singh, more popularly known as the ‘Goliya Wala Doctor’ for his expertise in operating on gunshot victims who come to him from across the Shahabad region, said, “The injured woman has undergone more than 150 stitches as she was stabbed very badly all over her body. On her neck and the surrounding area alone, there were more than 70 stab wounds, 30 to 40 wounds on her back and about 15 to 20 wounds near her breast/chest. I have rarely come across such gruesome stabbing injuries in any patient. It took me more than three hours of surgery to save her life. She is being kept under constant observation.”The surgeon added, “Saving her life was very challenging. She needed O-negative blood, which is extremely rare to find immediately. However, we somehow managed to procure O-negative blood for transfusion, as she had suffered profuse bleeding after being severely stabbed. It is by the grace of God that she has survived such a gruesome attack.”The doctor added that the victim was first rushed to Sadar Hospital in Ara. However, after doctors there referred her to Patna, her family members brought her to his private clinic in Ara, where she is currently undergoing treatment.Meanwhile, the Bhojpur SP’s office, in a press release on Friday afternoon, stated, “The accused, identified as Pankaj Kumar Thakur, son of Radha Mohan Thakur and a resident of Bhakura village under the Ara Mufassil police station area, has been arrested. As per the preliminary investigation, his intention behind the severe stabbing with scissors and a knife was to kill his wife, Nikita Kumari. The accused has been sent to jail. An FIR has been lodged at Ara Town police station based on the statement of the victim woman’s family members.”Speaking to the media, the victim’s father, Manoj Kumar Thakur, said, “My daughter was married to the accused, Pankaj Kumar Thakur, about six years ago. Six months after the marriage, Pankaj started beating my daughter without any reason. I used to call the Dial 112 police team whenever he harassed my daughter. However, keeping my daughter’s married life in mind, I spared him from legal action. But I didn’t know that one day he would turn so brutal.“The victim’s aunt, Usha Devi, claimed that the accused sat astride his wife while she was asleep and stabbed her repeatedly in a gruesome manner.“She has two small children, a son and a daughter. May she survive to bring them up,” the victim’s aunt said, crying inconsolably at the hospital.
