Nagpur: The much-hyped Indora-Dighori flyover may have opened to traffic, but a nearly 150-metre stretch between Lal Imli Square and Ganja Khet Square near Daga Hospital has remained closed for over three years, turning the busy junction into a traffic nightmare.Despite repeated complaints from residents, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and traffic police have failed to resolve the issue.A TOI visit on Friday found the stretch adjoining the flyover’s down ramp still barricaded, forcing vehicles travelling in both directions to share a single carriageway between Ganja Khet and Lal Imli Square. The situation worsens as vehicles descending from the flyover merge with traffic moving towards and coming from Favara Square. Autorickshaws parked along the roadside further narrow the available carriageway, leaving motorists struggling to negotiate the congested stretch.Local resident Mustafa Kamal said the situation had remained unchanged despite completion of the flyover. “While the nearly Rs1,000-crore Indora-Dighori elevated corridor was constructed to ease traffic congestion, the unresolved road closure continues to defeat its very purpose at this location,” Kamal told TOI.Cotton Market traffic zone police inspector Ajay Mankar acknowledged that the location had become a major traffic bottleneck. He said a shop on the closed stretch was at the centre of litigation pending before the high court.“We had earlier held a meeting with NHAI and NMC officials and suggested constructing a road beside the shop, where sufficient space is available to accommodate traffic. However, NHAI officials have not taken any action,” Mankar said.NHAI officials, however, claimed that the agency had already constructed a road beside the disputed shop, but home guards deployed at the location were preventing its use by barricading it.“We have constructed the road beside the shop, but home guards are barricading it for reasons best known to them,” the official said.Mankar, however, said the barricades were meant to prevent motorists from entering the wrong side of the flyover ramp. He added that NHAI had not cleared the stretch properly, with construction waste still lying on the road.“The home guards were posted to stop people from going to the wrong side on the flyover ramp. NHAI has not cleared the road properly as waste is lying on it, because of which it was barricaded. However, we would take proper measures soon,” Mankar said.
