Shimla: Nearly 11 lakh farmers in Himachal Pradesh have received Rs 220 crore under the 24th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, BJP state president Dr Rajeev Bindal said on Friday.Congratulating the beneficiaries, Bindal said each eligible farmer received Rs 2,000 directly into their bank account under the latest instalment.Under the scheme, farmers receive Rs 6,000 annually in three equal instalments through direct benefit transfer. Highlighting the cumulative assistance, he said that Himachal farmers have received around Rs 5,230 crore through 24 instalments under the scheme so far.A farmer receiving all instalments would have received Rs 48,000 so far, he added. The state BJP chief said agriculture and horticulture are the backbone of Himachal’s rural economy and farmers face challenges due to difficult geographical conditions, small landholdings and rising input costs. The assistance helps them meet expenses on seeds, fertilisers and other agricultural requirements.Taking a dig at the Congress, Bindal said that while its leaders criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Centre was working for farmers’ economic empowerment. He urged Congress functionaries to focus on constructive measures for farmers’ welfare instead of political criticism.
