Zuarinagar residents demand new police station

Vasco: Residents of Birla and Zuarinagar have demanded a separate police station for the area, citing a rise in crime and growing fear among locals over their safety. The demand has gained urgency following a recent assault involving a family member, allegedly triggered by a minor dispute over vehicle parking, which escalated into a serious incident.Local resident Roquezinho D’Souza said the govt had proposed a separate police station for Birla and Zuarinagar, which fall under the jurisdiction of Sancoale panchayat, about a decade ago. However, despite a notification being issued, the proposal has not been implemented to date.D’Souza said the Verna police station was already overburdened by the increasing number of crime cases and road accidents, making a separate police station necessary to improve policing and ensure public safety.“The Verna police station is overloaded due to the rise in crimes and accident cases. There is a need to establish a separate and exclusive police station for Sancoale, where migrant populations are concentrated in the slum settlements of Birla and Zuarinagar,” D’Souza said.Residents believe a dedicated police station would improve response times and help address local law and order concerns.
