Mohali: The Mohali police arrested a youth for allegedly fleeing from a police checkpost during checking.SP Dilpreet Singh said a sport utility vehicle (SUV) was impounded after a brief chase when its occupants allegedly attempted to escape after being signalled to stop.“The vehicle had different registration plates at the front and rear, raising suspicion,” said SP Dilpreet Singh.Besides, several vehicles were impounded during the overnight checking operation.The special drive is part of the district-wide security measures ordered by the Mohali SSP ahead of festivals. Police teams are checking suspicious vehicles and persons at key intersections and other strategic locations to prevent criminal activities and maintain law and order.The Mohali police said the special checking would continue daily. Residents can contact the police helpline 112 in case of an emergency.and impounded around a dozen vehicles during special checking across the district in a single night ahead of festivals.SSP Varun Sharma has directed all superintendents of police (SPs), deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) and station house officers (SHOs) to remain on the streets and set up checkposts at strategic locations.“All SPs and DSPs must be present on the roads and at checkposts to ensure effective checking. I will conduct surprise inspections to verify that the nakas are functioning properly. There will be no laxity in security arrangements, particularly during the festive season,” he said.
