Thiruvananthapuram: BJP Keralam chief and Nemom MLA Rajeev Chandrasekhar has accused chief minister V D Satheesan of showing double standards by expressing the state govt’s willingness to host the exhibition of photographs by Raihan Vadhra, son of Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadhra.“The chief minister and govt are well within their rights to invite anyone to exhibit their work. But two questions arise. First, in the name of democratic rights, how is the Wayanad MP’s son given this privilege while peaceful protesters are tear-gassed and hit with stun grenades by the Kerala Police?’’ Chandrasekhar said. Satheesan had on Friday said that Keralam was ready to host Vadhra’s exhibition that ran into a controversy after Bikaner House in Delhi denied him permission to display several photographs relating to recent student protests in the national capital as they were inconsistent with the policy of Bikaner House.“People should put this question to Satheesan: how can you claim to protect democratic rights and have such double standards?’’ Chandrasekhar said. “This is preferential treatment for the dynasty’s latest entrant into politics. Second, there cannot be two sets of rules. Bikaner House said political content and exhibitions are allowed on its premises. Why would that apply to everyone except one family? This is the problem with the Congress’s fraud politics: they believe rules and laws apply to everyone but themselves,” he said.“They invoke democracy and democratic rights for themselves and their cronies but are fine violating the rights of every other Indian, every other Keralite. That is a double standard that can’t withstand any test of sincerity or honesty, which is why I keep calling it fraud politics,’’ he said.
