NEW DELHI: A 35-year-old car driver, who was stabbed multiple times following an alleged dispute over asking for “extra choley” in outer Delhi’s Nihal Vihar area, died during treatment on Tuesday, according to news agency PTI.The victim, identified as Sandeep, was allegedly attacked during a scuffle with a choley-bhaturey seller near Jwalapuri Nala on Sunday. The accused, identified as Chintu Gupta, has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. Police said a murder charge was added to the case following Sandeep’s death.Sandeep was initially admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital on the night of October 25 before being shifted to Maharaja Agrasen Hospital in Punjabi Bagh, where he died during treatment on Tuesday.According to his medico-legal case (MLC) report, Sandeep had three stab wounds on the left side of his abdomen, three lacerated wounds on his left forearm and another lacerated wound on his wrist.A senior police officer said Sandeep was declared unfit to give a statement, following which investigators began examining the circumstances of the incident. The preliminary inquiry revealed that a scuffle had taken place between him and the food vendor near Jwalapuri Nala, the officer said.An FIR was registered at Paschim Vihar West police station on Sunday under Section 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with attempt to murder. Police said the provision was invoked after considering the nature of the injuries and the circumstances of the incident.During the investigation, Gupta was arrested and remanded to judicial custody. Following Sandeep’s death, police added Section 103(1) of the BNS, which deals with murder, to the case.Sandeep’s father, Bijender Singh, alleged that a minor disagreement over food had escalated into a violent confrontation. He said his son had gone to a Sunday market and asked the vendor for extra choley. An argument followed, during which the vendor allegedly abused Sandeep. The dispute then escalated into a scuffle, and Sandeep was stabbed repeatedly, Singh alleged.“I got to know about the incident and immediately reached the spot. Some eyewitnesses also helped me pick him up,” Sandeep’s father said.Singh said his son was initially taken to a nearby hospital, but he later arranged for him to be shifted to another facility for better treatment. Sandeep was eventually admitted to Maharaja Agrasen Hospital in Punjabi Bagh, where he died on Tuesday, two days after the alleged attack.“My son’s only fault was that he asked the shopkeeper for some extra choley. He was stabbed several times and died after battling for his life for two days,” Singh alleged.Sandeep, a resident of Rav Vihar in Nihal Vihar, worked as a private car driver. He is survived by his wife and two sons, aged four and 10.Singh further alleged that three to four people were involved in the attack, but police had arrested only the vendor so far. “We want justice. All those involved in the killing should be identified and arrested,” Singh added.Police said further investigation was underway and they were examining the role of other people allegedly involved in the attack.
