Bokaro: Two men were arrested for duping a woman of gold jewellery by posing as sadhus, police said on Saturday. The woman, a resident of Camp-2 area, had registered a complaint with City police station on Oct 28.The accused brothers, identified as Shambhu Lathaur (30) and Gaya Lal Lathaur (25), are residents of Belaganj police station limits in Bihar’s Gaya district. A gold mangalsutra, a pari of gold earrings, 40 brass lockets, 20 brass amulets and rings and 50 colourful stones were recovered from them.DSP City Rajeev Ranjan on Saturday said Shambhu and Gaya Lal visited the house of Babita Devi on Oct 28 morning and asked for food posing as sadhus. “After food was served, they listened to the family’s household problems. They then suggested that their hardships could end if Babita brought out the family’s gold and silver ornaments for blessing,” Ranjan said.Babita handed over a gold mangalsutra and a pair of gold earrings to the duo, who allegedly replaced it with 10 brass lockets wrapped in a sari. The duo advised Babita to not open 5 pm, warning that doing so earlier could cause an accident. When Babita opened the bundle in the evening, she realised she had been cheated and filed a complaint at City police station. A team led by the city DSP traced the suspects to a tent near Balidih railway station and arrested them late Friday. “They confessed to stealing the ornaments during questioning,” Ranjan said.
