Ahmedabad: A committee headed by a retired judge, constituted to investigate alleged financial irregularities involving former Gujarat University vice-chancellor Dr Neerja Gupta, has reportedly received around five applications by the Oct 30 deadline. The committee had issued a public notice inviting individuals with complaints against the former VC to submit their representations along with supporting evidence. The deadline for submitting complaints has now expired, and sources indicate that approximately five applications have been received so far.The inquiry has attracted attention amid allegations of financial irregularities during Gupta’s tenure. The committee is expected to examine the complaints and the supporting documents before deciding on its findings and recommendations.Meanwhile, questions have also been raised over bills and other documents reportedly being circulated from within the university daily. Whether these documents will be formally included in the committee’s investigation remains unclear.Educationists are closely watching the next steps in the inquiry, particularly how the committee evaluates the evidence submitted against the former VC and whether it recommends further action. The constitution of the committee is part of the university’s efforts to examine allegations surrounding its previous administration. However, the receipt of complaints does not, by itself, establish any wrongdoing, and the allegations will need to be assessed on the basis of documentary evidence and the committee’s findings. The committee’s eventual recommendations are expected to be significant for the university administration, as well as for those seeking clarity on the allegations against the former VC.
