Pune: Over 95% of the 1.22 crore voters issued notices during the SIR of Maharashtra’s electoral roll have been cleared after verification of documents, according to state chief electoral officer’s office data on Oct 30.Chief electoral officer S Chockalingam said all 1.22 crore notices were served. He said voters submitting the required supporting documents would not face any problems. The district-wise report shows that 96.51% of the 62.48 lakh voters flagged for logical discrepancies in their electoral records cleared the scrutiny. On the other hand, 93.73% of the 59.75 lakh unmapped voters cleared the verification process.Chockalingam said, “Lists of remaining cases have been put up on the chief electoral officer’s website. Booth-level agents (BLAs) of political parties can check these lists and help the voters concerned submit their supporting documents.”Booth-level officers (BLOs) reached out to voters who were issued notices and ensured collection of documents in most cases. “The collection should be completed by today (Friday) in a few remaining districts,” said an electoral official. The chief electoral officer’s office has uploaded district-wise and constituency-wise lists of electors with notices pending for disposal. BLAs have been directed to contact these voters in their respective polling areas and facilitate submission of the required documents to booth-level officers (BLOs).Officials said the pending list includes only cases where verification or disposal is yet to be completed, and not all 1.22 crore voters served notices. The involvement of BLAs is expected to help the electoral machinery reach voters who have not submitted their documents. The responsibility for examining documents and deciding on individual cases rests with electoral registration officers (EROs) or assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs).Officials iterated that receiving an SIR notice did not mean that an elector’s name would be automatically deleted from the electoral roll. Each case would be examined individually on the basis of documents submitted and the verification process.
