Kolkata: A doctor was reportedly cheated out of Rs 1.5 crore after his elder daughter and her male friend staged her own kidnapping.Police said the girl, a BTech student, and her friend made up a story that she had been abducted and kept in a hotel. She called her father, crying and seeking money for her release. Her male friend, posing as the abductor, called her father and supposedly threatened him that his daughter would not be freed unless money was paid.The doctor transferred money in several instalments to an account provided by the two. The account reportedly belonged to the male friend’s mother, police said.The case widened when the elder daughter called her younger sister and asked her to meet her. The younger girl went missing on Oct 19, following which the father lodged a missing diary at Panchasayar PS. Police traced the elder daughter’s phone number to a hideout in south Kolkata on Tuesday night, rescued the two sisters and arrested the male friend. They later detained the elder daughter after finding evidence of her role in the alleged plan.
