6 years on, Maharashtra govt clears Rs 5,560 Covid centre power bill

Pune: State govt has sanctioned Rs 5,560 to clear the pending electricity bill for the Covid-19 care centre in Daund taluka, more than six years after it was set up.The bill is for a 30-day period from April 27 to May 26, 2020.Officials said the sanction follows a Bombay high court order issued on Feb 24, 2026. “Subsequently, the Pune district collector scrutinised the pending bill and submitted a proposal to the Pune divisional commissioner, who recommended the release of funds in Aug,” a district administration official said. The amount will be released to the Pune collector through the Budget Estimation, Allocation and Monitoring System (BEAMS). The govt has stipulated that the bill must not have been submitted for funding or paid under any other scheme. The department has also cautioned that the calculation must be verified to prevent duplicate payments. The authorities must submit an utilisation certificate to the accountant general or state govt. “The expenditure will be met from the 2026-27 state budget under the head for measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, outside the prescribed norms of the State Disaster Response Fund. The govt resolution was issued with the finance department’s concurrence against funds made available through a reappropriation order,” the order stated. The state’s Relief and Rehabilitation department approved the funds through a govt resolution issued on Tuesday to clear the electricity bill incurred when the premises were used to house the Covid-19 care centre during the pandemic.“The clearance of the pending bill has been approved after six years. There were some issues related to the billing that delayed the matter,” officials said.
