Hyderabad: Aerospace and defence player Sigma Advanced Systems Limited on Tuesday said it has secured a $102.23 million order (around Rs 974 crore) to manufacture and supply base bleed units for 155 mm artillery ammunition to a NATO customer. The Hyderabad-based company said the contract, to be executed over 12 months, marks a significant expansion of its role in the global artillery ammunition supply chain. The company said the order supports its strategy of building integrated capabilities across key components of 155 mm artillery rounds, including shells, fuzes and base bleed units.Base bleed units are fitted to the rear of artillery projectiles and release a controlled flow of gas during flight. This reduces drag behind the shell and helps extend the projectile’s range, making the technology important for modern long-range artillery systems.Sigma said the new order would strengthen supply-chain control, reduce reliance on external suppliers and improve its ability to offer comprehensive ammunition manufacturing solutions to domestic and international customers. The company linked the expansion to India’s Make in India programme and its focus on indigenous defence manufacturing.Sunil Kalidindi, CEO and executive director, Sigma Advanced Systems, said repeat orders showed customer confidence in the company’s execution, delivery reliability and scaling capabilities. He said Sigma was positioning itself as a dependable outsourcing partner for customers seeking integrated manufacturing capacity.Sigma manufactures precision aerospace and defence components across avionics, naval systems, radars, communications, munitions, aero-engine components and aerostructures. It is listed on the BSE and NSE and owns UK subsidiary Nasmyth.
